Hello everyone! Today’s Kick-Off will be dedicated to taking a quick look at this Tuesday’s important Champions’ Leg ties. Arsenal, Manchester United, Lyon, and Bayern Munich are already through to the quarterfinals. Who will join them from this week’s four pairings?
Read on for our previews and predictions. As always, we want to hear from you. Who do you think will advance and which quarterfinal match-up are you hoping to see?
The return of ‘the Special One’ to Stamford Bridge. Surely Jose Mourinho will get a rousing reception as he comes back as opposing manager to the club he spent three trophy-filled years with. But, can he mastermind passage to the next phase against Carlo Ancelotti’s side? This should be a fascinating affair, not only because of the storyline that everyone seems to be talking about, but also because of the football believe it or not.
Inter hold the 2-1 advantage, yet Chelsea could find that away goal quite useful. It has been reported that Mourinho could find himself out of a job in Milan come season’s end should he fail to advance, while on the other hand Chelsea, so often the bridesmaid in this competition want to finally be the ones to lift the cup after making it so far in the past few seasons.
Elimination for either side will be seen as a major disappointment. This has all the makings of a cagey affair and though talented players abound on the pitch, I am not expecting much in the way of goals. I’ll be honest, this prediction is a pure guess because Chelsea may be slight favorites thanks to playing at home, but Inter hold a slender lead. In the end, I’m going to go with Inter going through. A bit of a shock, but I fancy them grabbing an away goal and advancing even if on penalties.
One Game, One World Prediction: Chelsea-Inter 2-1 (Inter to advance on penalties)
One of these two sides will write themselves into the history books on Tuesday in making their first ever quarterfinal appearance. Seville ensured they would be the odds on to advance by claiming an away goal in Moscow two weeks ago. Most pundits are picking the Andalucian side to go through. CSKA will be a tough proposition though and now the Russian club will also have the added bonus of some games under their belts as the Russian Premier League has finally commenced.
It is a massive night for both teams and with match-ups like this you never know what to expect as these are two sides who surely feel they can beat the other. Seville are fourth in La Liga at the moment, however they have been strangely inconsistent at times this season, occasionally playing superb football but not always getting the results as evidenced by their weekend draw with Deportivo La Coruna where they dominated though could only manage a 1-1 draw. CSKA won their league opener at the weekend and will feel a little more ready for the second leg.
I like Sevilla in this match-up, I just think their quality will be too much and that they won’t disappoint their home fans. It will be close though and CSKA will give it a go and if they can snag an away goal who knows.
One Game, One World Prediction: Sevilla-CSKA Moscow 2-1
